Pollinator Communities of Planted and Feral Pyrus calleryana

نویسندگان

چکیده

Pyrus calleryana was intentionally introduced to North America from east Asia in the early 1900s as rootstock for edible pear tree, communis. It identified an ideal decorative, agricultural, and horticultural tree because of its small stature, spring flowering, fire blight resistance inoffensive fruits. P. escaped cultivation is now considered invasive species, typically found on roadsides, prairies, fields. The aim this study characterize pollinator community diversity planted feral trees, well it compares expected communities derived research-grade iNaturalist observations. Pollinators were collected by hand trees April 2018–2022. A total 14 taxa insect flowers, with similar levels Apis mellifera Andrena spp. most common observed. sampled did not differ generated using data either or calleryana.

The sudden collapse of pollinator communities.

Declines in pollinator populations may harm biodiversity and agricultural productivity. Little attention has, however, been paid to the systemic response of mutualistic communities to global environmental change. Using a modelling approach and merging network theory with theory on critical transitions, we show that the scale and nature of critical transitions is likely to be influenced by the a...

Transcriptome analysis of Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) reveals a comprehensive signalling network in response to Alternaria alternata

The pear is an important temperate fruit worldwide that is produced by a group of species in the genus Pyrus. Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana Decne) is characterized by high resistance to multiple diseases, good adaptability, and high ornamental value, and is therefore widely planted in pear orchards for edible fruit production or as stock. Plant pathogens are a major threat to pear yield. Black...

Diverse pollinator communities enhance plant reproductive success.

Understanding the functional consequences of biodiversity loss is a major goal of ecology. Animal-mediated pollination is an essential ecosystem function and service provided to mankind. However, little is known how pollinator diversity could affect pollination services. Using a substitutive design, we experimentally manipulated functional group (FG) and species richness of pollinator communiti...

Population dynamics of plant and pollinator communities: stability reconsidered.

Plant-pollinator networks are systems of outstanding ecological and economic importance. A particularly intriguing aspect of these systems is their high diversity. However, earlier studies have concluded that the specific mechanisms of plant-pollinator interactions are destabilizing and should lead to a loss of diversity. Here we present a mechanistic model of plant and pollinator population dy...

Soil Animal Communities of Planted Birch Stands in Central Finland

The aim of this study was to compare soil animal communities in planted birch (Betula pendula) stands of different origin with each other and with natural forests. Six 30-year-old birch stands were investigated, three planted after clear-cutting of spruce stands, and three planted on cultivated soil. The faunal communities were markedly different in plantations established on spruce forest soil...
